In the last couple of days, it’s been exciting to see all the updates that have been coming to the Apple line of products. It’s almost as if they’re making up for some big, terrible thing they’ve recently done by offering geeks some absurdly sexy technology. They’ve announced, among other things, an increase in power for the Mac Pro line, the Apple Magic Trackpad and that the Apple LED Cinema Display has moved to 27 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Each of the updates adds some nice benefits to their respective product lines, and the Apple Magic Trackpad is something we can’t wait to play with. However, in an exercise of sheer painful woe, we got to thinking what it might cost for the crème de la crème. With that said, we set to building a Mac Pro with all eight cores, the full 32GB of memory, all the available software and some fries on the side. What the breakdown looks like is this:
Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
32GB (8x4GB)
2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
4x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
Two 18x SuperDrives
Apple Cinema HD Display (30″ flat panel)
Apple Cinema HD Display (30″ flat panel)
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) and User’s Guide
AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi Card with 802.11n
iWork preinstalled
Aperture preinstalled
Final Cut Express preinstalled
Logic Express preinstalled
FileMaker Pro 11 preinstalled
Microsoft Office Mac 2008 – Business Edition
MAC OS X Server (Unlimited-Client)
Xsan 2.2
Apple Mini DisplayPort – DVI Adapter
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
MobileMe
1-year One to One membership
AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac Pro – Auto-enroll
We’ve only left out the Raid and Express cards because they wouldn’t work with this build. So, what does all this cost, you ask? The cost of a fully equipped Mac Pro with every trimming that Apple offers and all the available software is…
$19,234.90 ($14,121.90 for the machine without the displays and software)
Read it and weep ladies and gentleman. That’s what you’d need to be the best — that and a desk big enough for two 30” Apple Cinema displays. That’s a hell of a desk.
Edit: As ‘no thanks’ has mentioned in our comments, these are actually the old specs and don’t include the SSD upgrades. We’ll go back and try this again once the new upgrades are available in the configuration. Our bad, folks.

Those are the old specs; new parts announced today aren't available in the configurator yet. Eg. the 512GB SSD won't come cheap. Nor dual 12core Westmere processors and dual HD 5870s.

Should have noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out 'no thanks'. We'll make sure to try this again once the SSDs and other options are actually available on the site. We're thinking $25k, what about you?
