Though Portal 2 is barely a week old at this point, there are already some rumblings of upcoming DLC – possibly a lot more than just hats. Fastcompany recently had the chance to chat with Valve’s Erik Wolpaw, Jeep Barnett and Doug Lombardi, focusing mostly on the team’s design challenges, story and character development. However, at the end of the interview, Fastcompany poses a question to Doug Lombardi, and his answer is more than a little telling:

There is a comic online, but beyond that, is there more Portal coming?

Doug: We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer. We’ll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We’ll support that with more videos or more comics.

So there you have it – Portal 2 DLC is coming, though we won’t know exactly what it is until Valve gives us more info. Maybe they’ll be new levels incorporating elements that were cut from the main game. Let the speculation begin!

    YES! Hopefully the DLC is something good, like those tubes and wall-climbing gel cut from the main game.

      Well, since they said they would support it with videos and comics, you know they wouldn’t waste all that effort for hats…unless Robin Walker and his TF2 posse take over.

    Remember when they said they “could make the game super frustrating”? Yeah, let’s get THAT as DLC, that would probably make the most sense, give us the biggest headaches and the best challenge!

    DLC wishlist:

    * More challenging levels
    * More story wouldn’t hurt, but I doubt we will get it
    * Soundtrack release!
    * 24 person portal co-op (juuust kidding)

      “24 person portal co-op”

      That would be amazing.

      “Dammit, Carl. You were supposed to shoot a teal portal up there, not magenta. Now we have to spend another 2 hours setting this up. Good work.”

    I’d love a Challenge Mode, personally.

      I too was disappointed by the lack of a Challenge Mode. I beat the SP campaign then immediately went to try the challenges, only to be disappointed.

      I also want to see a Level Builder thing, but I’ll be quite sad if they try to charge for it. That would be a shitty move.

      Aside from that some more story or a cool new fluid would be nice. I saw something about a fluid that didn’t make the cut, was supposed to let you run up walls. I actually tried doing that on one of the first rooms when you get the propulsion gel, until I finally realized the proper solution.

    This is great news. Hopefully we’ll get to see them use those pneumatic tubes that didn’t make it into the main campaign, or maybe the paint that lets you climb walls.

    I can’t wait for this. It would be even better if they released it for free.
