While the Wii sluggishly crawls to its grave, we’re left wondering why Nintendo’s flagship speed racer never made a proper appearance. Japanese developer Shin’en saw the lack of a proper F-Zero as an opportunity, and decided to shamelessly make one themselves. Complete with “Captain F.”
Today, FAST Racing League releases on WiiWare (yep, people still use that) for 1000 Wii Points, and it boasts quite a bit of content. Hit the jump for the trailer and details. It actually looks pretty damn good.
Surprisingly, FAST is developed by a mere five individuals over at Shin’en, stated in this interview over at Nintendo Difference. The game touts:
- 12 Large Tracks to Unlock
- 15 Items to Unlock
- Three Leagues to Unlock
- 480p Widescreen, 50/60 Hz
- 1-4 Player Splitscreen
- 60 FPS (1-2 players) 30 FPS (3-4 players)
- 23 Audio Tracks, 130 Sound Effects

Wow looks great time to crack out my PSone.
I ended up buying it. Yeah, it’s definitely a cross between Wipeout and F-Zero, with the White/Black mechanic of Ikaruga.
Too early to tell, but it seems decent for ten bucks.
