If you’ve been even slightly excited about the release of DotA 2, you might have noticed they had an opt-in option for the upcoming closed beta. Unfortunately, no one really had any knowledge of when the closed beta would occur. As of an interview with the French website Gamekult, we have clarification on the matter.
In the interview, Gabe Newel stated that we can expect to see the beta in about three weeks. If you’re wondering why we must wait a little while for the closed beta, apparently Valve has set out to address some of the feedback they received after the tournament. Once this is completed, we should see the beta rolling out.
Now, this isn’t a very specific margin, but three weeks seems appropriate, given the previous “after Gamescom” statement.
With an open beta for all planned after the invite-only closed beta, the game is currently set for a 2012 release on PC and Mac.

Ooooh very excited for this. I hope they’re not stingy with invites.
It’s looking as if they’re going to slightly base it off of hardware testing and some other things. I talked a bit about it here: http://geek.pikimal.com/2011/08/22/dota-2-tournament-sees-a-winner-and-more/
i heard it’s like 1 million invites for closed beta?
3 weeks? That’s like 3 months in Valve time.
sooo true haha
Good luck to all testers!
