What is the identity of StarWarsIdentities.com, StarWarsIdentites.com [sic], and sw-id.com? What is its purpose? Who is its daddy and what does he do? Well, actually I have an answer to that last one – Lucasfilm Ltd.
On Monday, November 7th, those three domain names were purchased by Lucasfilm for reasons unknown.
Fusible hesitantly suggests that this could be George’s next foray into the Star Wars film franchise. The chances of this prediction being true are probably slim, considering that Lucas has repeatedly stated that he isn’t planning on creating a third trilogy consisting of episodes V, VI and VII.
Maybe because it has to do with the identity of Star Wars, we’ll be seeing a trilogy that consists of episodes -III, -II, and -I? Star Wars: Identities could just as easily be another animated addition to the canon, more DVDs, or even a new video game. Why Lucasfilm Ltd. would be registering the domain names in place of LucasArts though is a mystery.
If in fact it is another video game that the Star Wars guys are cooking up, Eurogamer believes that this might be LucasArt’s answer to the open-world RPG that they started hiring for this past August.
Paul Meegan of LucasArts has even expressed disappointment at some of their previous efforts, as “In recent years, LucasArts hasn’t always done a good job of making games… We should be making games that define our medium, that are competitive with the best of our industry, but we’re not.” So maybe a partnership between Lucasfilm Ltd. and Lucas Arts isn’t that farfetched.
Until we know more though, Star Wars: Identities shall remain unidentified and an enigma of epic proportions.
