An investigation by the New Zealand Labour Department has cleared Gameloft studios of allegations of brutal working conditions. Gameloft, best known for producing iOS and Android games distinctly reminiscent of famous IP’s (*cough* knock-offs *cough*), came under fire after Glenn Watson, a former head studio programmer, alleged that they had actively encouraged their employees to work 14 hour days, seven days a week. This practice directly violates New Zealand’s Health and Safety in Employment Act.
The investigation, covered here by Develop, has been closed with no legal action after investigators found no substantial evidence to back up the claims.
Hopefully, for the employee’s sake, everything at Gameloft is (and remains) on the up-and-up.
