Originally, National Alliance Capital Markets analyst Mike Hickey believed that we could expect to see Grand Theft Auto V around May this year. However, since Max Payne 3’s release date has been pushed from March 2012 to May 15th, it’s unlikely that Take-Two Interactive, owner of Rockstar Games, will be releasing both games in the same month.
Therefore, GameInformer quotes Hickey as stating,
It seems unlikely that Rockstar Games would launch both Max Payne 3 and GTA 5 in the month on May. Therefore, we have shifted our original expectation for GTA V to launch in May 2012, into the Company’s 2013 fiscal second-half operating period (release window: Sept. ’12 – March ‘13).
Analyst Jesse Divnch of EEDAR agrees that we should see GTA V by March 2013 at the latest, but Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter states, “I don’t know if [the delay] means a full year gap, but very likely six months. Too bad, as I think Grand Theft Auto V would benefit from giving Call of Duty some breathing room.”
GTA V was announced via Rockstar Games’ Twitter account in October 2011, and its first and only trailer was released in November. No timeline or information on platforms has been released yet.

Anyone with any amound of common sense should have been able to figure out this wasn’t being released this coming May. I’d guess March of 2013.
It was NEVER going to be May. It was and will be October 2012. GTA’s trailer-to-release cycle has always been about a year. Chances are they will also delay it to March or April of 2013 once we get closer to October. One need only look back at past GTA releases to predict this time around.
Most people suspect it will be May 2013, because Take-Two releases most big titles in May.
No. May 2013 wouldn’t be in Fiscal 2012, and Take-Two is still guaranteeing a $2 share by April 2013. Considering that prior to GTA IV (and with GTA IV itself before it got pushed back), Rockstar always hit October release dates, October ’12 is very likely, ESPECIALLY since Rockstar is running on a 12-month release window with every game they make post-announcement. (Exception is Max Payne)
I think a lot of people will lose interest if they have to wait until late 2012 or 2013
Problem is the rumours become so big when a product is delayed by too long. Take the iPhone for example. Everyone thought the iPhone 5 would be released last year, and it was dissapointing when the 4S was released, because rumours made the product seem so awesome, that nothing could virtualy make the people happy enough to top rumours. So sales did bad, because people expected much better. The same is going to happen with this game if they wait too long. People are going to make rumours sound better than the game could be and we’ll anticipate this great game, and then when it releases, there’s major disspointment. I hope they release it early.
well mike hickey is stupid because i said 2013 the whole tym
I loved Half Life 2 and was super excited for HL3, but with 4 years of nothing and little or no information from Valve, i have lost interest in the franchise. I couldnt give a hoot if it was announced tomorrow. I trust Rockstar a heck of a lot more than Valve at getting GTA out as quickly as possible, but I just hope they havent played their cards too soon, with the trailer last year. I mean, creating early hype is one thing, but stretching the wait out too long can end up in overhype and disappointment.
first off, its not going to be released passed 2012. Rockstar themselves said that this is an late 2012 release. it will probably be around october, since a entertainment site and blockbuster has already released a release date
Proof of GTA V releasing in April 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjekJg-2-Ac
Lolno. That’s the tentative release date made before the official is announced. Take-Two’s stock can physically NOT EVER reach $2/share without GTA V’s release, and the fiscal year ends April 1, 2012. They’ve guaranteed that share price, and they’ll release GTA V in October 2012 at the earliest, and March 2013 at the VERY VERY latest. Besides, Rockstar wouldn’t announce a GTA without it being almost done, not since they delayed IV, and Max Payne, and LA Noire, etc.
