Genius Sonority, best known as the developers of Pokémon spin-off games, are releasing a new game for the 3DS eShop in Japan next week, titled Denpa Ningen RPG, which according to Nintendo Life translates roughly to “Electric Wave Person RPG.”
According to translations of the official website, the premise of the game is that said Electric Wave Persons exist in the real world and float around invisibly (I must have been sick and missed that particular Biology class). The player must use the 3DS cameras to locate the creepy jumpsuit-wearing men and recruit them to join a team of adventurers. The Wave People can be sent to explore dungeons and fight monsters in a manner that seems well-suited to Genius Sonority’s Pokémon experience.
Each Wave Person has a jumpsuit color which indicates his elemental attribute, and some other attribute is indicated by the Teletubby antennae on his head. Having a well-balanced team of multi-colored jumpsuits will make your Wave People better in battle, and look even
more KAWAII! O(≧∇≦)O Oh God. ∑(O_O;) It’s rubbing off. At any rate, the game looks positively demonic for localization teams, but whether it makes its way west or not the gameplay footage after the break has to be seen to be believed.
Based on the video, the game looks like a test run for a Pokémon Snap fan’s wildest fantasy. Turn-based fights, augmented reality cameras, and role-playing discovery are all components of the perfect 3DS Pokémon game. Even if this game never makes it to the states, Genius Sonority has shown the potential of taking a mixture of augmented reality and role-playing game and turning into something strange and new.
