What is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone mentions Battleship? The beloved childhood strategy game? Or perhaps the more contemporary version, Battleshots? I doubt that FPS came to anyone’s mind – right? Either way, that is what we’re getting for the video game adaptation of the upcoming film.
In other words, it’s a game based off of a movie based off of a game. According to Activision and Double Helix, the game will combine traditional aspects of the board game with modern FPS gameplay. To do this, the game will switch from the “Battle Command Map” to typical shooter sections.
There is no word on what the Battle Command Map will be, but it is probably safe to assume that it will a mission selection screen that looks like the board game.
During the game, which is a separate story from the film, players will control demolitions expert Cole Mathis as he commands an entire naval fleet to save the Hawaiian archipelago from… underwater space aliens? Hey, quit laughing! This is supposed to be a serious story! If underwater space aliens invaded your country, I doubt you would be laughing!
The game will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with “uniquely designed versions” released for the Wii, DS and 3DS.
